Kedarkantha Trek, situated at the Garhwal region of the Himalayas is the most loving winter trek. This trek is recommended to all the adventurous souls who love Snow & high mountains. If you have a prior experience or no experience at all this trek will definitely amaze you. In this trek, you will get to see snow-covered pine forests, Beautiful Campsite and a 360 degree view of the mighty Himalayas.
The total height of Kedarkantha is 12000 feet covering approximately 20 Kms distance (one way) from the base camp i.e. Sankri. So as you trail towards the peak you will witness the rich flora & fauna of the region, snow-covered pine trees, beautiful mountains, valleys and frozen ponds.
The best time to visit Kedarkantha is between December to February as snow add more colors to its beauty, make it more picturesque. Camping in the lap of mountains, enjoying Bonfire with your friends or fellow trekkers under the sky stargazing will surely make your night unforgettable!
Day 1 : Arrival at Sankari
Altitude: 6,400 feet
210 km drive - approx 10 hours
Trekkers will be picked from Dehradun Railway Station at 6:30am in a Tata Sumo or a similar vehicle
Arrival at Sankari by 5:00 pm
Night Stay in Hotels
Drive through the twisted road, which present the most beautiful sights of the Garhwal region as you crosses through the area of mussoorie, Barkot to finally reach the last motorable village Sankri. Sankari serves as the base of many treks like - Har Ki Dun, Bali pass, Borasu Pass, Ruinsara Tal, Bharadsar lake.
Day 2 : Sankari to Juda-Ka-Talabh
Altitude: 6,400 feet to 9,100 feet
4-6 kms trek, approx 5 hours
The trail passes through the forest of pine,oak trees and then open outs out to meadows
Stay in tents
After the breakfast you will move toward the Juda .The trail to the Juda ka talabh is a short trek of around 10-15 minutes. The most prominent peaks that you’ll see throughout the trek is Swargarohini, try to spot it along the way.
Day 3 : Juda-Ka-Talabh to Kedarkantha Base Camp
Altitude: 9,100 feet to 11,250 feet
4-6 kms trek, approx 4 hours
Trek to Base camp is through the forest covered by oak trees.
You can also see the meadows and shepherd huts.
Peaks :- Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Kala Nag and Ranglana stand among the others
Stay in tents
Today after the breakfast your trek to Kedarkantha Peak will begin. View of Kedarkantha peak is clearly visible from the campsite.
Day 4 : Trek to Kedarkantha Peak and then descend to Hargaon
Altitude: 11,250 feet -> 12,500 feet -> 8,900 feet
6 kms trek, approx 7 hours
You can spend some leisure time at the summit and then descend back to the base camp.
Post lunch, descend down to Hargaon
Reach Hargaon by evening
Stay in tents
Have a proper breakfast as today you will require much energy. Ascend to the Kedarkantha peak (3,850m). The most prominent peaks that are visible from the peak are Swargarohini and Bandarpoonch peaks. You will also see Gangotri, Yamunotri, Har Ki Dun, and Rupin mountain ranges from the top.
Day 5 : Trek to Sankari
Altitude: 8,900 feet to 6,400 feet
6 kms trek, approx 4 hours
Descend 2500 feet through dense pine forests
Wake up early morning to catch the prominent views of sunrise as this will be your last supper of the trek. After the breakfast trek back to sankari. Along the way back to Sankari you can enjoy the open views of meadows of the beautiful Har ki Dun Valley.
Day 6 : Way back to Dehradun
End of the trek. Today you will have a drive of 8-10 hrs and we will drop you back by evening 6:30 to 7:00 pm at Dehradun Railway Station.
